Brandon Flowers - On The Floor (Lyrics)
Track 9 on the Album "Flamingo" from Brandon Flowers
Lyrics:
When the lights go down in the city
Getting real low
Settling in my room
I'm unnoticed
When the still comes in through my window
Letting me go
I feel a calm, come over me, on the floor
On the floor
Where the rats all come away clean
They're on the floor
Where the children all stomped and screamed
Straight out the door
Well i find my self on my kness
Begging please
When the lights go down in the city
And everyone goes to their room
Walking the trail
To dreamland
When the lights go down in the city
Something is roaring
I find myself
Waiting to believe
On the floor
Where the mice call shots in the corner, that's where I'll be
When the crickets come home and sign their symphony
When I find myself on my knees
Begging please
On the floor
They've seen the things i've done here on the floor
Where the years have gathered and run that's where I'll be
And I find myself on my knees
Begging please

Track 4 on the Album "Flamingo" from Brandon Flowers Lyrics: Hah. Hah. Hah. Hah. Hah Hah. Is there anyone out there? Somewhere I can belong Man the city just stayed so kind tonight I need a place to take refuge See I been loving you blind And I guess that made it hard for me to find Now we were caught up in the middle of a worn out dream I knew we were in trouble but baby I almost screamed when...

Track 5 on the Album "Flamingo" from Brandon Flowers Lyrics: Daddy, I'm not gonna tell you that I'm sorry, But there aint nothin you can do to change my mind. I'm not here to know the things I cannot do, We've seen the outcome of the Boy's Who Didn't Fly. That road outside that you've been taking home forever, That'll be same road that I'll take when I depart. Those charcoal veins that hold thi...

Despite the rather religious tone near the end, this song resonates with me tremendously. Growing up, my mom would play me songs by The Killers or Brandon Flowers and told me the group was called "The Flowers". As I grew older, the songs harbored lots of negative feelings for her, and she stopped playing them. They lay dormant in my memory for many, many years. This song included. The irony though is not lost on me in all of this. These songs, especially this one, are cherished memories from y'know, when "things were simpler". And it was shared with me by my mom, a passionate lover of music. Now, at 17, I've realized over the past years of thought that not only am I transgender, I want to transition medically. So the words, "Daddy I'm not gonna tell you that I'm sorry, but there ain't nothing you can do to change my mind" For me have a very similar meaning. This is similar to the next lines, "I'm not here to know the things I cannot do (her disdain for my gender identity and making me promise not to transition), we've seen the outcome of the boys who couldn't fly (the staggering numbers of trans deaths)." Last year and some months ago, we had a very deep discussion. It was relaxed, and I was fully listening to my mom and accepting of her view and understood her view. But man, "Playing with fire, you know you're gonna hurt somebody tonight And you're out on a wire, you know you're, playing with fire" It was a relaxed conversation, but I held her words with me for such a long time before I finally let go. It was like holding onto a lit match. But when I did finally let them go, I've litterally forgotten what she said entirely. For an entire YEAR her words were engraved in my mind. And now they've simply vanished. And, Mom, I know you use UA-cam and can probably understand that this is my account. If you read this comment, and know it's me, please keep this in mind: I. Love. You. I understand why you're concerned. I've spent over 3 and half YEARS mulling over this decision. I haven't told anyone my wishes yet, as of posting this comment in early March of 2023. I know you're scared. You don't have to be. I'm confident that despite transitioning being such a radical change (although over a slow pace), it will make my quality of life better. I've had very few moments when I could spend days hip to hip with girls who treated me as a girl. But in those moments, I felt a different kind of complete I hadn't felt before. It just made me happier, mind body and soul. That's why. I love you, so much. I still hope that this comment isn't how you find out though, as I'd much prefer to tell you in person... but if it is from this comment, then it's the will of the universe. The end is not an end, only a new beginning. The future is what we make it.

I have arthritic pain in my left hand today, and tendonitis in my right upper arm is being a b****, but I have just played along tho this on guitar and it. was. worth. it. Great writing, gorgeously layered production. Daniel Lanois is a master - but BF gave him pure gold to work with. Can't believe this is ten years old!

Daddy I'm not gonna tell you that I'm sorry Cause there ain't nothing you can do to change my mind I'm not here to know the things I cannot do We've seen the outcome of the boys who didn't fly That road outside that you've been taking home forever That'll be the same road that I take when I depart Those charcoal veins that hold this chosen land together May twist and turn but somewhere deep there is a heart Playing with fire You know you're gonna hurt somebody tonight And you're out on the wire You know you're playing with fire Perhaps this calling is the channel of invention I will not blush if others see it as a crime However dangerous the road, however distant These things won't compromise the will of the design Ten thousand demons hammer down with every footstep Ten thousand angels rush the wind against my back This church of mine may not be recognized by steeple But that doesn't mean that I will walk without a God Rolling river of truth, can you spare me a sip? The holy fountain of youth has been reduced to a drip I've got this burning belief in salvation and love This notion may be naive, but when push comes to shove I will till this ground You know you're gonna hurt somebody tonight (oh, oh, oh) Out on the wire And I might not get there But this little town, this little house, They seem to be leaning in the wrong direction I'm not afraid of you no more (oh-oh, oh-oh, ) Playing with fire You know you're gonna hurt somebody tonight And you're out on the wire You know you're playing with fire

Woke up in the rusted frame of a burned out old DeVille Your legs are shot and they're flushed with pain But you can't keep 'em still The sun sets and you're afraid of that itching in your skin You stumble down the boulevard of neon encrusted temple You're looking for the grace of God in the arms of a fellow stranger Disciples hand you catalogs of concubines As you stumble down the boulevard crying Hosanna Welcome to fabulous Welcome to fabulous Las Vegas Give us your dreamers, your harlots and your sin Las Vegas Didn't nobody tell you the house will always win? Cameras on the ceiling tile, no place for you to hide It's a hundred seven And you're looking for shade that no palm tree can provide But there's a little girl you remember back in Tennessee You have this reoccurring dream where you see her playing hide-and-seek With a woman who used to know you very well Sunsets in neon lights Call girls in neon lights Blackjack and lady luck Cocaine and lady luck You call upon her on holy knees tonight In Las Vegas Give us your dreamers, your harlots and your sin Las Vegas Didn't nobody tell you? Didn't nobody tell you? Didn't nobody tell you? The house will always win
